Participation at CSTI 2018

At the "Corrosion and Surface Treatment in Industry 2018" Conference, ReCorr will present two novel techniques ReCorr QCQ (Quantitative Coating Quality) and ReCorr QCC (Quantitative Concrete Corrosivity), based on EN ISO 16773 standard. Techniques have been successfully validated in cooperation with industrial partners and have the potential for widespread application with the aim of rating performance and durability of protective coatings and rating corrosivity of concrete.

  • Invited Lecture on Wednesday, September 26th, at 16:50, Sanja Martinez: Advances in Application of Electrochemical Methods for In-Field Paint Coatings Quality Assurance and Control
  • Short Presentation and Poster on Thursday, September 27th,at 11:40, Ivana Šoić: Development of Method Based on EIS for the Efficiency Assessment of the Inhibitors for Concrete Reinforcement

Bachelor Thesis Defense - DEVELOPMENT OF METHODS FOR EFFICIENCY ASSESSMENT OF MULTIMETAL VAPOUR PHASE INHIBITORS

VCI

On September 3rd, 2018 a defense of the bachelor thesis of Ema Lovinčić was held, in which the protective function of polyethylene foil with a vapour phase corrosion inhibitor has been investigated, in the case of corrosion of copper. As is the case for the inhibitors in the liquid phase, the inhibitors in the vapour phase are expected to operate efficiently within a certain window of environmental conditions. The investigation of the vapour phase corrosion inhibitors efficiency is a challenge because particular corrosive conditions in the vapor phase and/or at the surface of the metal, are generally attained with more difficulties than those in the liquid phase.

The study investigated the inhibition of (i) copper samples that had surface contaminated with various surface concentrations of chlorides and that were exposed to the atmosphere of 100% relative humidity at 40 oC, and (ii) of copper samples exposed to the atmosphere of 100% relative humidity, in the presence of iodine, at 25 oC. In both cases, corrosive conditions have been achieved that enabled the visual evaluation of inhibitory efficacy. The presence of the inhibitors at the metal surface and the nature of corrosion products were further explored by the microFTIR method. By comparing the laboratory experimental conditions with the corrosivity of the atmosphere in which the object to be protected resides, a conclusion can be drawn about the applicability of the vapour phase inhibitors as a method of protection.
